How to write a good blogpost.

You have started your own new blog. All very exciting, but how do you actually write a good blog? A blog that attracts many readers, to which readers respond and to which you feel good as soon as you put it online. Writing a good blog can be a challenge, but I also know from experience if you are too busy with it that you often do not succeed. Or you are just writing without really focusing on that and then suddenly he is there: the perfect blog post.

how to write a good blogpost

You can do things to make sure that you make the most change of writing a perfect blog!

So my first advice is just to write and gain the experience. Of course you want readers to come back, so it is important that your blog posts are interesting enough and that readers want more. But what do you pay attention to while writing? What should a good blog have? And what you absolutely shouldn’t do? It is important that your blog post is easy to follow for the reader. That it is a logical story and nice to read. Make sure the reader is fascinated and does not want to stop reading. This way you ensure that the reader also returns to your blog. And that’s what you want.

Especially for you as a beginning blogger I have made a free guide:

Blogging for beginners!

In this guide you will find:

  • The first steps you need to take when you start blogging
  • The Blogpost Checklist
  • Tips for beginners

I have listed a number of tips for you so that you know what to look for when you write your blog post.

1. Treat one thing at a time.

Tell something about one thing per blog entry. Do not cram different topics into one message. This is unclear and you can only tell a little about each subject. Tell as much as you know about one topic. In a next blog post you can take another topic to write about.

It is sometimes tempting to tell everything you have in your head, but you really have to limit it. This provides clarity to the reader and in this way you provide valuable information. You create a stronger blog that way. They really do come back for more tips and information if you give it per blog post.

In another blog post you can take another topic to write about. Sometimes you suddenly have many ideas that you want to blog about and you prefer to launch this in one go, but believe me you will also have to deal with moments when you think what should I write about again.

If you are working on a blog post make sure you make a list of topics that you want to write about in other blog posts. During writing you often come to mind and when you want to write you can sometimes not come up with it. Prevent this and keep standard pen and paper handy.

I always thought that blog posts should be long, because yes you want to tell something and readers do not come for a short piece. Well believe me, readers will come for a short piece, as long as you have something to say. Better a short blog that fascinates readers and that has enough information than a long blog post in which you stuff a lot of text to fill, but in which you actually have not much to say. Short but powerful!

2. What is the purpose of your blog?

Determine the purpose of your blog post. You can have an informative purpose in which you provide information with, for example, tips such as this blog.

You can also write a blog post in which you share your own experience with your readers. They recognize themselves in your story and that gives connection to each other. Recognition can support your readers and that is worth a lot.

I can tell you that the blog posts in which I tell my story and my own feelings are the most read blog posts on my blog. People gain strength from this and know that they’re not the only ones with a certain problem, for example. They see how I have solved things and find the strength to start thinking in those possibilities. That has always been my motto. Thinking in possibilities instead of impossibilities. I have always told myself that I’ve always made my choices. Do not take a victim’s role, but pick it up and move on. I try to alternate these two goals, because valuable information is also needed and by combining these two you can really offer your readers value.

So before you start writing a blog post, you first determine the purpose of your post. Sometimes you can also mix them. You sometimes notice that while writing valuable information your own experiences come to the surface and before you know it you switch to a different goal. Watch out if this happens, because it quickly becomes too messy and confusing for the reader. If you still want to share your experience with your readers, make a following blog post about it. By also mentioning that in a subsequent post you will share your experience on that subject you give your readers a reason to come back.

Apart from an informative and experiential blog post, you may also want to share a clear opinion. Be careful and aware of this, it can attract readers, but you can also lose readers.

3. A good title.

A blog post with a title of course. A title can attract readers, but can also cause readers to pass you by. So you understand that the title is very important for your readers. It’s like a first impression. While making up the title, consider whether this title that you have in mind would lure you to the post. With the title you are supposed to convince your reader that your blog post is worth reading.

The trick is to make them curious. They must ask themselves what you have to say. And you must be convinced that the reader wants to read your message. And they want that, because you have value to offer.

What can you take into account when you come up with a title?

You can be the first to come up with an interrogative title. A question that your reader wants to get an answer to. The answer is in your blog post. So what is your blog about and what information do you give away? If you explain something in your blog post you can put the question in your title in such a way that your reader wants to know how you are doing something, for example.

Give your tips then you put this in the title. 10 tips on how to….

Then you can also come up with a short powerful title if, for example, you want to share an experience. Also try to find out what works for you. This can be different for everyone. My readers are not your readers. You always attract different customers, I always say.

4. Start with a clear first paragraph.

If the reader has arrived at your blog post then it is important to keep the reader. You don’t want the reader to read a few sentences and then leave quickly. Your first piece of text will therefore have to be strong.

There are a number of options that you can use.

Immediately tell what the blog is about, make sure that the subject is clear, but also where you want to go with your story.

You can also start by asking your reader a question. A question that the reader thinks about and becomes aware of.

You can also start with an anecdote or a given (news) fact. As long as it makes it inviting to read.

Do not attempt to refer to a previous blog post or topic. Unless the subject has a successive character. New readers in particular then drop out.

5. Your reader is central.

Your blog post must give value to your reader, so actually your reader is in fact central. You start from the reader. What does the reader want to know? What does the reader gain from your information? Is the reader waiting for this?

By telling too much about yourself and your own situation, your reader can drop out. Your own experiences are of great value, but you don’t want to bore your readers just by telling about yourself. Make a limit for yourself in this. What is useful to share and what should you leave out.

6. The structure of a blog post.

A blog post should have a logical structure. Put points clearly in a row, don’t make it too messy and don’t jump from the heel to the branch(that’s a dutch expression, I hope you get it!). I always have to be careful with the latter, I stray quickly. As I write many new things pop through my head, which makes me inclined to wander. Watch out for this, because you get the readers out. Make your points clear and make sure that you make clear at the start of the blog post what your blog post is about.

Make sure the text is structured logically and do not repeat. Go from point to point and make clear per point what you want to convey to the reader.

I often have a blog post first written in a word document before I put it in the blog. This way I can clearly see how the paragraphs work and whether the points are clear. I often make a list of catchwords for myself so that I have a guide in the structure of the message. This way I can already look at the shape a bit and see if it doesn’t get too long. Because of the catchwords I already know a little which way I am going to write and I prevent myself from going astray or going in the wrong direction.

Always read the blog to see if the structure is correct. A clear start, the value you want to share and a conclusion.

7. Start with the basics.

To continue with the structure it’s important to get into the reader. Be aware that you know a lot about the topics of your blog. Many things make sense to you and are sometimes not worth mentioning. We often think too hard when it comes to providing information. Remember that your reader knows less than you and that you will have to start with the basics. If you immediately start giving difficult or advanced information, the reader will drop out.

For example, if you tell from your own experience, it’s nice for the reader to see the change in your situation. This gives conviction to the reader to also apply the useful tips in his or her own situation. So show what the situation was before you made changes.

Another example: I wrote a lot in my blogs about saving money and creating money. I forgot to discuss the basics first. For me it was logical to have your administration in order and to put all your important papers in folders so that you have everything together and can easily find it again. In the beginning I did not provide any information about this, while many people could not even start with the information I gave in my blog posts. I could not imagine that people wouldn’t have their papers in order and that, for example, it would be tucked away in a box. And that while these are my readers, because they want to get everything in order. To get money matters in order, it’s important to first have the administration in order. Logical anyway!

So start with the basics and think about what makes sense to you and pass on that information to your readers.

8. You are the expert.

Continue to write your blog posts from an expert position. Readers want to be wiser from you. So don’t just limit yourself to experience messages. This is nice for people who experience the same as you, but for readers who want to learn something, they will drop out of you and you obviously don’t want that. Try to make sure that people want to keep reading your blog posts, because they want to make the same changes as you probably did yourself. They see how it has changed your situation and they want it too. So keep giving value to your messages.

What is also good to be aware of is that you are an expert in your area, but that does not mean that the customer must also become an expert. Watch out that you overload your customers with information. It is therefore a search for the balance to offer a lot of value, but not to overload it. Ask your customers what they need so that you know what value you can give.

9. Read your blog post carefully.

This is the most important tip I can give you. I often read blog posts and then I think: Did you read the post well or did you put it online immediately after writing. Look carefully at spelling mistakes and typos. These are two different things, but they are always there.

I think it’s really important, because it can look so clumsy if there is no good text. It doesn’t read well. Pay close attention if your blog post contains no spelling errors. I myself notice when I have written a message and I read back the message that I soon get some errors out of it. Sometimes I have someone read a message.

Apart from the spelling errors, typing errors can be made quickly due to fast typing. You don’t do much about this, but it is important to pay attention to this before you post a blog post online. Nowadays it is handy that there is spell check, but you should also pay attention yourself. I think it’s a real turnoff when I read a message with errors. Many mistakes are made by the most professional bloggers and online business entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, not everyone finds it so bad, but it can cost you readers.

I believe that at this point I may be hinting a bit too much in my own opinion, but for me this is a daily annoyance and I want to save you from this. So take this tip seriously when you start blogging.

So pay attention:

  • Spelling mistakes
  • Typing errors
  • Capital letters, commas and periods.
  • Does the sentence read through well or is the text difficult to read?
  • Have someone read the text.

10. Feedback

This is actually a logical step after the previous tip. Always have someone read your blog post and ask them how they find it. Is the message clear that you want to convey? Is the text easy to read? Are there any language errors? What is the overall impression? Let someone around you read it for you.

You can see that it takes quite a bit to write a good blog post. I advise you to just start and not expect the utmost. A little enthusiasm is of course desirable, but do not expect that it will all go perfectly right from the start. You need practice to get ahead, so just keep writing. Follow these tips and write your own perfect blog post in no time!

GOOD LUCK!

Blogging and Affiliates go hand in hand. For a blogger it is a missed opportunity if you don’t add affiliate marketing.

Reason for me to blog about this too. Bloggers often start with affiliate links only when they have more visitors. It also doesn’t seem logical to place affiliates immediately when you start blogging. Still, it does make sense and in this blog I tell you is why.

Sell with affiliate links if you have a few visitors.

You can immediately show your visitors which products and / or services you stand for. Maybe they do not go directly to purchase, but eventually it is important that the recognition is there.

The moment someone is about to buy a product or service they think immediately of the fact that they have seen this on your website. Chances are they will come back to you.

Affiliate Marketing is one of the favorite ways to make money from blogging. Many experienced bloggers will agree. The best thing about affiliate links is that it doesn’t matter how many visitors and followers you have. You can always make money with this. If you use the right strategy for it to work!

I have a few tips for you that can help you to be successful with affiliate marketing and start making money.

1. Promote the right products

Let’s talk about the products you’re going to promote first. The moment you start looking for products that you want to promote, you should first think of your followers.

Think about your followers’ problems related to your niche. What do they struggle with? What product does they find a solution to their problem?

People don’t just buy a product they come across on a blog / website. They want solutions to their problems and if they see that the product you are promoting offers a solution to them, they will be more likely to purchase.

2. Promote one product per blog post.

If your blog gets thousands of page views and you already have a large list of followers, you quickly have a chance that someone clicks on and buys a promoted product. You don’t have to do much about it. The moment you have just started blogging or you do not have many followers, there is still work to be done.

The strategy of only placing an affiliate link does not apply. You will have more success if you devote a blog post to this product. Therefore, it’s better to put only that one affiliate link in that message. You can provide good reviews and tutorials. These are effective to achieve good sales results. You make a blog post about the problem, your followers will recognize it and their attention has been caught. Then you write in that message about the solution. Tell about the product and explain what this product solves. If you have your own good experience with any evidence, you can also add it. That works very positively and you can convince your followers.

If you follow this process and your followers find your blog post valuable and they trust you enough, they will start selling.

3. Promote a product with a high commission

Look for promoted products that have a high commission. If you are just starting, you will have less traffic to your website and you will make even less sales. Focus on products that have a high commission. Of course you have to keep an eye on your target group. You don’t want a product that you get more commission on, but your followers have nothing with this product. So look for products that solve a problem for your target group, that are within their budget and about which you get a high commission.

For example, if you have a product for which you get € 2, you will find 50 people to buy it if you want to keep € 100. If you promote a product with which you get € 20 per sale, you only have to sell 5 to get the same € 100. See what is easier, sell something to 5 people or 50? Buying 50 sales is not easy if you are just starting out or don’t have a large following. That is the reason to focus on products that yield more per sale.

I hope these tips help you and you are convinced to start with affiliate marketing right away.

Good luck!!

What is a blog?

What is a blog?

Years ago nobody had heard of a blog and I must say that not everyone knows what a blog is yet. When I say that I blog I still get questioning looks regularly.

What is blogging? However, blogging is more integrated and you see more and more people blogging.

Because it’s fun, but also because you can earn extra money with it. Not many people know that you can really earn money with it.

Many people think that you can earn a small amount and there are also people who still have no idea that you can earn a lot of money with it.

What is a blog?

What is a blog?

I can tell you a lot about blogging, but if you don’t know exactly what a blog is you will never start blogging.

If you are new into making an online business and want to make money blogging you definitely need to know the basics. So let’s start by telling you what a blog is.

In the dictionary you will find this definition:

A weblog or blog is a personal diary on a website that is kept regularly, sometimes several times a day. Usually these are texts that appear in chronological order. The author, also known as a blogger, actually provides a log of information that he wants to communicate to his audience, the visitors to his weblog. Usually this concerns text, but sometimes also photos (a photo blog), video (vlog) or audio (podcast). Weblogs often offer their readers the option to post comments (anonymously or otherwise) below the posts or leave a comment.

It is the personal or specialized character that makes weblogs interesting for visitors. For the blogger on the other hand, a weblog provides a platform for expressing an opinion or passion that one has and to make money with it through advertisements or sponsoring.

In simple words now: You are on a blog now! This is a blog and what you are reading on this page is a blogpost. It is written content. You can create content in different ways. It’s how you want to get your information to your audience. You can do that for instance with a blog, a video, a podcast, an image or an email.

A blog is an important part of a website. Here you can share much information and by sharing more content the searchengine will show your website to audience who search with  the keywords you are using.

What is blogging?

Blogging means that you are adding new blogposts to your website/weblog.

In my opinion blogging is fun, amazing, relaxing, addictive and for me a form of expression.

The most greatest part of blogging is that there are no rules. You make your own rules.

Nobody tells you to blog every day. You can blog whenever you want to blog.

Nobody tells you where to blog about. It’s all up to you.

Nobody tells you how small or how long the blogpost must be.

Like I said: A blogger is it’s own boss!

You decide where you use your blog for.

You can use it for:

  • Personal stories/journals
  • Creative expression

That’s a common question that every starting blogger asks them self.

Most bloggers are creative persons. I’m also one of them. You want to share your passion with like minded people. You want to meet other creative people and connect.

You can blog about anything. It’s up to you to decide.

What is a good blog?

You start blogging to connect with your audience, so it is the connection that you make in your ow unique way with your readers.

The numbers of how many visitors you have, how long your blogpost is or how many pageviews you have is not important. It’s the way you connect and get your audience to come back for next visit at a new blogpost.

If you have a short blogpost with huge information that many people want you can make more money then with a large blogpost. Everything is possible. After some experience you can tell what works to make money and what doesn’t for you and your blog.

Here are the 6 ways you can make real money blogging:

1. Advertisements

By putting ads on your blog you can earn money. For this you need a high number of page views and visitors, because it concerns small amounts. Added together it can add up to a nice amount, but it means that you have to keep busy with your blog.

You can have advertisements placed via Google Adsense.

You get paid per click. You can earn a nice extra with this, but do not expect that you can get a whole salary from this. It’s a revenue model and it is important to use multiple revenue models in order to earn well with blogging.

If you earn enough with the other revenue models, I would leave out the ads. Many readers are annoyed by this. Opinions are divided on this.

2. Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing means that you write about a product and place a link to it. The moment the customer has bought this product via the link on your blog, you will receive a commission. This business model can save you a lot of money if you handle it well. It’s important that you properly transfer the information to your readers and that they see that you are behind the product. This promotes its sale.

Do not advise many products to your readers. They can see right through it if you only do it for the money.

It’s advisable to use this way of making money. You lose a lot of money if you don’t.

If you get more experience with it, you will see that it’s a good earnings model. There are even bloggers who earn a lot of money with this and who really would not need another revenue model to get a good salary from it.

3. Sponsored Blogs.

A great way to make money is sponsored blogs. You can promote and get paid for a product or company in a blog post. Your blog post will then be placed on your website.

Another way to use this is to collaborate with other bloggers. You can post blog posts together. That way you can both get more visitors and you will get more exposure.

4. Sell products.

By selling your own products you can create a nice income for yourself. You don’t need collaboration and the proceeds are all yours.

You can also offer a lot to your visitors in this way. This way you can help your visitors even more and share a lot of information. Think of an online program.

If you have a niche, you have gold in your hands. You can respond well to this and thus make and sell your own product.

For example, if you blog about food, you can make your own menu plan with schedules and recipes. You can sell these in a bundle.

What to consider when selling your own product:

  • A course
  • E-books
  • Printables
  • Physical products
  • Subscriptions

5. Offer services.

Are you an expert in something and do you have a niche? Then you are in the right place, because then you can help people both online and offline. You can offer your services through your website. This gives you more reach.

Think, for example, of coaching. As a coach, you can help someone in the area where you have knowledge and experience. You can help them achieve their goal.

Some examples:

  • Coaching
  • Web design or website design
  • Virtual Assistant

6. Offer membership – membership subscription

A subscription is ideal to offer to your customers. You can ask for a monthly or annual payment for what you have to offer. Think of more information and printables, for example.

You can also sell photos for bloggers this way. You add new photos every month. This way you can come up with a form of subscription for your expertise.

TIP: Keep Blogging!

As soon as you don’t do much, the number of visitors decreases and you don’t want that. That is one of the most important things to keep in mind when it comes to blogging. You should keep busy with your blog by blogging regularly or you will lose readers. If they don’t see anything new, they won’t come back. You should see it as a relationship. You have the visitors, but you also have to keep them! And by blogging, the number of visitors grows.

GOOD LUCK!
